After School...
When Anaya reached home, she was still burning with anger. She didn't even feel like talking to anyone. Disappointment, frustration, and guilt were fighting inside her heart.
Deep down, she knew she had overreacted... but her ego refused to accept the truth.
Just then, Ishika, who had been silently observing her for quite some time, finally spoke.
"What happened, Anaya? Tu itne gusse mein kyun hai?" she asked softly.
"Kuch nahi, Masi... bas aise hi," Anaya replied, forcing a smile.
But Ishika wasn't convinced.
She knew both Anaya and Kaira better than anyone else. They weren't just her nieces-they were her family, her friends, and her comfort. She could read every emotion on their faces.
And right now...
Anaya was hurting.
"Mujhse jhooth bolegi? Bata na kya hua hai. Mujhse nahi chhupa payegi. Bol," Ishika said with a warm smile, gently encouraging her.
Anaya lowered her gaze before speaking.
"Woh... Masi... aaj maine ek ladke ko thappad maar diya."
Ishika's eyes widened in shock.
"Par kyun? Shuru se bata. Mujhe kuch samajh nahi aa raha."
She couldn't believe it.
Anaya was the kind of girl who rarely lost her temper. Slapping someone was something she could never even imagine Anaya doing.
Taking a deep breath, Anaya narrated everything-from their very first meeting to the moment she slapped him.
The room fell silent.
Ishika didn't interrupt her even once. She simply listened, trying to understand every detail before saying anything.
After a few moments, Anaya looked at her nervously.
"Masi... bolo na. Maine galat kiya na?"
Ishika sighed softly before answering.
"Beta, maine tumhari saari baat suni. Aur main samajh sakti hoon ki tum gusse mein thi. Lekin tumne situation ko achhe se handle nahi kiya."
Anaya quietly looked down.
"Main samajhti hoon tum bahut hurt thi. Lekin tumne usse poori class ke saamne thappad maara. Gusse mein insaan galti kar deta hai, lekin humein yeh bhi sochna chahiye ki saamne wale ki bhi self-respect hoti hai."
She gently placed her hand on Anaya's head.
"Agar tumhe gussa nikalna tha, toh tum usse alag se baat kar sakti thi. Lekin poori class ke saamne itna bada scene create kar diya. Socha hai? Shayad kuch log uspar hass bhi rahe honge. Woh bhi kisi ka beta hai, kisi ka dost hai... uski bhi feelings hain."
Every single word hit Anaya's heart.
The anger that had been consuming her slowly disappeared, replaced by guilt.
Tears gathered in her eyes.
"Haan, Masi... ab mujhe samajh aa gaya. Aap sahi keh rahi ho. Maine bahut overreact kar diya. Kal competition ke baad main usse zaroor sorry bolungi."
A small smile appeared on Ishika's face.
"Good, beta. Ab jao, fresh ho jao. Aur zyada mat socho. Galtiyan sabse hoti hain. Sabse zaroori baat yeh hai ki hum unse seekhein."
Without saying another word, Anaya hugged her tightly.
"Thank you, Masi... You're the best."
Ishika smiled as she wrapped her arms around Anaya.
"Always, baccha."
The Next Morning
the school buzzed with its usual hustle and bustle. The corridors echoed with the cheerful laughter and excited chatter of students. It wasn't an ordinary day-it was the much-awaited Inter-House Speech Competition.
Selected students and teachers had already gathered in the open ground, which had been beautifully decorated for the event. Motivational quotes adorned the walls, while a large television displayed videos of the school's achievements, annual functions, and inspiring speeches delivered by previous toppers.
The stage looked elegant with its bright red carpet, and above it, written in beautiful cursive letters, were the words-
"Inter-House Competition."
Every participant stood with their prepared speeches in hand, looking confident and determined to bring victory to their respective houses.
After a while, the chief guests arrived. The teachers and Principal Ma'am welcomed them with warm smiles before escorting them to their seats.
Once everyone settled down, Principal Ma'am turned towards Sushma Ma'am.
"Sushma Ma'am, please recheck everything. The guests have arrived, and only a few minutes are left before the competition begins."
Sushma Ma'am smiled reassuringly.
"Everything is under control, Ma'am. I already spoke with Karishma Ma'am, and she said our Head Girl, Anaya, has managed everything perfectly. You know how responsible she is."
Principal Ma'am nodded with satisfaction.
"Yes, I know. Then let's begin the competition."
Within moments, the students started gathering according to their classes.
The announcer stepped onto the stage.
"The first round is for Class 6. Participants from all four houses, please come forward as your names are announced."
One by one, the students walked onto the stage with confidence. After Class 6 came Class 7, then Class 8, and so on. Every participant gave their speech passionately, determined to earn points for their house.
(For those who don't know, schools are divided into four houses-Red, Blue, Green, and Yellow. Every student is allotted a house, and throughout the year, different competitions are held between these houses to encourage teamwork, confidence, and healthy competition. The house that performs the best is awarded and appreciated.)
Finally, it was time for the last category-
Class 12.
The announcer spoke into the microphone.
"Anamika from Blue House will now present her speech."
Anamika confidently walked onto the stage.
"Good morning, respected Principal Ma'am, honourable guests, respected teachers, and my dear friends..."
A few minutes later, she concluded her speech. It was powerful enough to leave everyone impressed.
Next came the participants from Yellow House and Green House. Both delivered outstanding speeches, making it extremely difficult for the judges to decide a winner.
Finally, the announcer smiled.
"Now, Anaya Maheshwari from Red House will present her speech."
Anaya walked gracefully onto the stage.
A gentle smile rested on her face. Her neatly tied hair, perfectly ironed school uniform, and confident posture made her look like the ideal Head Girl every teacher admired. She held her folded speech carefully in her hands.
Taking a deep breath, she unfolded the pages and stood before the microphone.
Meanwhile...
Hidden behind a pillar, Anay watched her with a smirk.
"Mujhe thappad maara tha na, Miss Anaya Maheshwari..." he murmured under his breath.
"Ab tumhe pata chalega us thappad ka matlab... Let the fun begin."
Unaware of everything, Anaya greeted everyone politely and began reading her speech.
"This school is the worst school. I request every parent not to send their children here..."
The words left her mouth...
...and she froze.
Her heart skipped a beat.
"Yeh... yeh kya? Yeh meri speech nahi hai! Main kya bol rahi hoon? Apne hi school ke baare mein yeh sab..."
Before she could process anything, Principal Ma'am's furious voice echoed through the ground.
"Anaya! What are you saying?"
Anaya looked up in panic.
"I-I'm really sorry, Ma'am..."
Before she could explain herself, one of the teachers rushed onto the stage, snatched the script from her hands, and started reading it.
Her face instantly darkened.
"What is this, Anaya? 'My Worst School'? Is this the topic you prepared? What kind of disgusting joke is this?"
Tears instantly welled up in Anaya's eyes.
"I'm really sorry, Ma'am... but this isn't my speech. My topic was 'The Impact of AI.' This script isn't mine."
The teacher frowned.
"There's nothing related to AI in this speech."
"I don't know how this happened, Ma'am. Please... give me one more chance. I'll handle the situation."
For a few moments, the teachers remained silent.
Deep inside, they knew Anaya could never disrespect the school she loved so much. But regardless of the reason, her careless mistake had embarrassed the school in front of the chief guests.
Karishma Ma'am stepped onto the stage and addressed everyone.
"We sincerely apologize, Principal Ma'am and our honourable guests. There was an unexpected issue. Anaya will present her speech once again."
Anaya slowly returned to the podium.
Her hands trembled.
Her heartbeat echoed loudly in her ears.
This time, she had no script.
Only her knowledge... and her confidence.
Closing her eyes for a brief moment, she took a deep breath before beginning again.
