A usual school morning began early as students woke up and got ready for another day of learning. They brushed their teeth, took a bath, wore their neatly ironed school uniforms, and enjoyed a healthy breakfast before leaving home.
One by one, they packed their school bags with books, notebooks, lunch boxes, and everything they needed for the day. Some students walked to school while others arrived by bus, bicycle, or car.
As they entered the school campus, cheerful greetings echoed through the corridors.
"Good morning!"
"Hey, see you in class!"
Teachers smiled warmly as students rushed past them, trying not to be late.
A few minutes later, the school bell rang, signaling the start of the morning assembly. Students lined up according to their classes and sang the national anthem with pride. This was followed by the school pledge, a thought of the day, and a few important announcements from the principal.
Once the assembly ended, everyone returned to their classrooms.
The atmosphere instantly became lively. Some students revised their homework, some chatted with their friends, while others simply waited for the first period to begin.
It was just another normal school morning...
Or at least, it was supposed to be.
Just then, the classroom door slowly opened.
Standing outside were the two most famous latecomers of the school-
Anay.
Shaurya.
As usual.
The entire class exchanged knowing glances before bursting into quiet laughter.
Anay flashed his signature innocent smile and knocked gently on the door.
"May I come in, ma'am?"
The teacher folded her arms before looking at him with an amused smile.
"Anay beta..." she sighed dramatically. "Come in... come in. But tell me one thing-have you ever, even once in your life, tried reaching school on time?"
The whole class laughed.
Anay scratched the back of his neck.
"Ma'am, I always leave my house on time. I don't know how I magically become late every single day."
The class chuckled again.
The teacher shook her head before turning towards Shaurya.
"Really? And Shaurya beta... you live barely ten minutes away from school. How do you manage to arrive late every day?"
Shaurya confidently stepped forward.
"Ma'am, actually what happened was-"
Nothing.
Absolutely nothing came to his mind.
His brain had officially gone blank.
Before he could say further, Anay casually interrupted.
"Ma'am, the thing is..."
He cleared his throat dramatically.
"There was a traffic jam on the way."
Everyone nodded.
"So our motivation to reach school also got stuck in that traffic."
A few students giggled.
"And as some great person once said, 'You should always drive slowly.'"
He proudly pointed towards himself.
"So I always keep my speed's Wi-Fi on slow mode."
For two whole seconds...
Silence.
The teacher simply stared at him, trying to process whatever she had just heard.
Then-
The entire classroom exploded into laughter.
Even Shaurya bent over laughing.
The teacher rubbed her forehead, trying her best not to smile.
Taking advantage of the moment, Shaurya quickly added,
"Ma'am, technically we're not late."
The teacher narrowed her eyes.
"It's just that all of you arrive too early."
The classroom erupted once again.
Even the teacher couldn't stop herself from laughing this time.
"You two..." she muttered while shaking her head. "Just go and sit down. You're experts at making excuses."
She pointed towards them.
"If only you used this much brain in your studies instead of inventing excuses, both of you would've topped the school by now."
Anay and Shaurya looked at each other proudly before shrugging as if they had just received a compliment.
Just as they were about to walk away-
"Oh, wait!"
Both boys froze.
"I almost forgot your punishment."
They slowly turned around.
"If either of you comes late even once during the next week..."
She smiled sweetly.
"I have both of your parents' phone numbers."
Their smiles disappeared instantly.
"Ma'am..." Anay whined. "Only one week?"
"Yes."
"If you keep coming on time for a week, maybe it'll become a habit."
Anay sighed dramatically before mumbling under his breath,
"that habit didn't develop in twelve years, how will it happen in just one week?"
Shaurya leaned closer and whispered,
"As if you've ever come on time in those twelve years."
Anay proudly replied,
"I have!"
Shaurya raised an eyebrow.
"When?"
"Two days ago."
Before Shaurya could answer, the teacher interrupted.
"Are you both planning to finish today's conversation standing there, or would you like to continue it after sitting at your desks?"
The class laughed once again.
"Thank you, ma'am," both boys said in perfect unison before finally walking inside.
As they reached their seats, Shaurya leaned closer.
"Don't you think ma'am just roasted us?"
Anay casually shrugged.
"What's new in that? Chill."
A moment later, he waved enthusiastically towards the last bench.
"Hello, brothers!"
The entire last bench waved back dramatically.
Meanwhile...
Anaya and Myra had witnessed the entire scene.
Neither of them knew whether to laugh or feel embarrassed.
Myra covered her mouth, trying to suppress another laugh as she remembered Shaurya's line.
Anaya noticed immediately.
"You're laughing too much after watching those two clowns."
Myra giggled.
"Everyone laughed. How is it my fault?"
Before Anaya could reply, the teacher resumed the class.
Within a few minutes, everyone became busy again.
Some students completed their pending homework.
Some whispered with their friends.
Others kept staring at the clock, desperately waiting for the zero period to end.
Meanwhile, Myra secretly hide her novel between her textbooks, completely engrossed in reading it.
At the same time, Karishma Ma'am called Anaya.
"Anaya, can you please take these files to the staff room?"
"Yes, ma'am."
Anaya picked up the files and quietly left the classroom.
The moment she disappeared...
Anay stretched dramatically.
"Yaar... I want to go home."
Shaurya smacked the back of his head.
"Have some shame, idiot! It's only the zero period and you're already missing home?"
Anay pouted.
Then suddenly...
His eyes landed on Anaya's empty desk.
A mischievous smile slowly appeared on his face.
He quietly took out Anaya's English notebook-the notebook he had ruined
Without letting anyone notice, he also pulled out another notebook, tore a small piece of paper from its last page, and carefully wrote something on it.
Glancing around once to make sure nobody was watching...
He walked towards Anaya's desk.
Except...
Someone was watching.
Myra.
Or at least, she would've...
If she hadn't been completely lost inside her novel.
Anay quickly placed the notebook on Anaya's desk, tucked the tiny note inside it, and quietly returned to his seat as if nothing had happened.
A few minutes later...
Anaya walked back into the classroom.
Just as she was about to sit down...
Her eyes landed on her English notebook.
Confused, she picked it up.
A small folded note slipped out.
She unfolded it and quietly read,
"Yeah, yeah... I know I'm an amazing person. No need to thank me. And don't worry-I completed all the missing work."
A tiny smile unknowingly appeared on her lips.
Curious, she opened the notebook.
Every single missing page had been rewritten.
Neatly.
Carefully.
Exactly the way it was before.
Slowly...
Her eyes searched the classroom until they stopped at Anay.
He sat there quietly, pretending to be completely innocent, as though he had absolutely nothing to do with it.
She immediately walked towards him, holding the notebook.
"What's this?"
Without even looking at her, he replied,
"Your notebook."
"I can see that," she said, raising an eyebrow. "Why did you do it?"
He shrugged casually.
"Because I felt like it."
She crossed her arms.
"you tore it on purpose. Today you've rewritten everything. Make up your mind."
This time, he finally looked at her.
"I realized it was stupid."
He paused before scratching the back of his neck.
"And... Bhai told me how much you loved this notebook."
"So I fixed it."
Anaya stared at him for a few seconds.
"So..."
"This is your version of saying sorry?"
"I never said I was apologizing."
She couldn't help smiling.
"You're really bad at saying sorry."
"And you're talking too much."
She rolled her eyes before hugging the notebook against her chest.
"Whatever..."
"Thanks... I guess."
Anay immediately looked away before she could notice the tiny smile forming on his lips.
"Don't get used to it," he muttered.
Anaya smirked.
"We'll see."
Trying to hide his embarrassment, Anay shrugged.
"Don't be so happy. I was just bored. Otherwise, I would've never done it."
Anaya laughed softly.
"Really?"
"You? Bored because of studies?"
"As if I don't know how allergic you are to homework."
She turned around and walked back to her seat, still smiling.
Anay quietly watched her leave.
For some strange reason...
Their argument hadn't felt like an argument this time.
And neither of them knew why.
A few minutes later, the bell rang, announcing the
**Library Period**.
Almost instantly, the students stood up, chatting excitedly as they made their way toward the library. Some were looking forward to reading books, while others were simply happy to enjoy a peaceful period away from the classroom.
The library was calm, filled with neatly arranged bookshelves and the faint smell of old pages. Everyone settled into their assigned seats.
As soon as they entered, Anaya's attention shifted to Myra.
She had noticed something strange since morning.
Every few minutes, Myra would secretly steal a glance at Shaurya before quickly looking away, pretending to be busy.
This time was no different.
Coincidentally, Myra's seat was right in front of Shaurya's.
The moment Anaya noticed it, she looked at Anay, who had also realized the same thing.
Both of them exchanged amused expressions.
Anaya couldn't help but chuckle.
"Poor girl... she's making it way too obvious," she thought.
Meanwhile, Myra had completely immersed herself in her novel once again, hiding it carefully between her library books.
Shaurya, on the other hand, sat quietly beside Anay, completely unaware of the pair of eyes that kept finding their way back to him.
As for Anay...
The moment he sat down, he rested his head on the table.
"This is definitely a sleeping period," he mumbled to himself before closing his eyes.
---
A few moments later...
Myra unknowingly looked up from her novel.
Her eyes landed on Shaurya.
He wasn't talking.
He wasn't laughing.
He simply sat there quietly with his eyes closed, one hand resting against his forehead.
For some reason...
Even that simple sight made her heart skip a beat.
Without realizing it, she kept staring.
She didn't even notice someone watching her.
"Tu baar-baar usse kyun dekh rahi hai?"
Anaya's voice suddenly broke her thoughts.
Myra jumped slightly before immediately looking away.
"W-What? Main? Nahi toh..."
Anaya folded her arms and raised an eyebrow.
"Stop fooling me."
"You know you can never lie to me."
Myra sighed.
She knew there was no escaping Anaya's questions.
After remaining silent for a few seconds, she finally spoke in a voice barely louder than a whisper.
"Pata nahi yaar..."
"Bas... mujhe Shaurya achha lagta hai."
Anaya's eyes widened in surprise.
"Matlab..."
"Tu usse pyaar karti hai?"
Myra's eyes grew even wider.
"What?"
"No!"
She immediately shook her head.
"Pagal hai kya?"
"You know me."
"I've always dreamed about having a fictional man as my life partner."
She laughed awkwardly before looking towards Shaurya once again.
"I never said I love him."
"It's just..."
"I don't know why..."
"The moment he comes in front of me..."
"I forget how to talk."
"My heart starts beating faster."
"And all I want to do is keep looking at him."
A shy smile unknowingly appeared on her lips.
"I don't even understand what's happening to me."
Anaya stared at her best friend for a moment before bursting into a small laugh.
"I seriously think you should stop reading these romance novels."
"They're affecting your brain."
Myra laughed softly, but deep inside...
She wasn't so sure.
"I don't know, Anaya..."
"Is this love..."
"Or just attraction?"
"Maybe it's only attraction."
"After all..."
"I've always imagined my future with someone straight out of a fictional story."
"And Shaurya..."
"He's real."
She lowered her eyes back to her book.
But this time...
She wasn't reading a single word.
---
The peaceful atmosphere inside the library didn't last very long.
A group of boys sitting near the back had been talking continuously since the period began.
Their loud whispers gradually turned into full conversations.
The library teacher looked up from her desk.
"Boys..."
"This is a library."
"Please maintain silence."
Most students immediately quieted down.
Except one.
Kamal.
Instead of listening, he leaned back in his chair and rolled his eyes.
"Kya hai, ma'am?"
"Har cheez se problem hoti hai aapko."
"Yahan bhi maze nahi kar sakte kya?"
The entire library fell silent.
Several students exchanged uncomfortable glances.
The teacher remained calm despite his disrespectful tone.
"Kamal, this is a library."
"There are rules."
"If you want to talk loudly, you may do so outside."
But Kamal wasn't ready to stop.
He continued arguing with her.
His voice became louder with every sentence.
Many students lowered their heads awkwardly.
Except one person.
Suddenly...
Shaurya shouted
Everyone turned.
Shaurya stood up from hi seat
His face, usually filled with mischief and laughter, was completely serious.
He looked directly at Kamal.
"Don't you have any manners?"
The entire library froze.
"If you don't know how to speak respectfully to your elders..."
"Then stay within your limits."
His voice echoed through the silent room.
"She's doing her job."
"She's around your mother's age."
"The least you can do is show some respect."
Kamal remained silent.
Shaurya took another step forward.
"And if following the rules is such a problem for you..."
"Then don't come to the library."
The silence that followed felt deafening.
No one dared to say a word.
Even Kamal lowered his eyes.
The library teacher looked at Shaurya with moist eyes.
A gentle smile appeared on her face.
"Thank you, beta."
"I'm really proud of you."
Shaurya immediately became awkward.
He rubbed the back of his neck before smiling politely.
"I just said what was right, ma'am."
The teacher nodded gratefully.
Around the library...
Students couldn't stop looking at him.
Some were surprised.
Some were impressed.
Others smiled with admiration.
Among them...
Myra.
She looked at Shaurya with shining eyes.
Until now, she had admired his smile, his confidence, and his carefree personality.
But today...
She had witnessed something completely different.
His respect.
His maturity.
The way he stood up for someone who couldn't defend herself.
A smile slowly spread across her face.
"Maybe..."
"He's even better than the fictional heroes I've always read about."
Without realizing it...
Her admiration had grown a little deeper.
And somewhere nearby...
Anaya quietly noticed the smile on her best friend's face.
She looked from Myra...
To Shaurya...
Then back to Myra again.
A knowing smile appeared on her lips.
"Interesting..." she thought.
"This story is just getting started."
And then a voice come
Tingg tingg
Singling students that the period is ended
Shaurya lightly smacked Anay on the back of his head.
"Uth jaa, hero. Period khatam ho gaya."
Anay only groaned in response, still resting his head on the desk.
Shaurya rolled his eyes.
"Chal, class mein English ka period hai."
Still half-asleep, Anay slowly lifted his head. His hair was a complete mess, and his sleepy eyes were barely open.
He let out a dramatic yawn before lazily getting up from his seat.
"Yaar... school wale sone bhi nahi dete," he muttered under his breath, making Shaurya chuckle.
Both of them picked up their bags and walked out of the library with the rest of the class.
A few hours later...
The final bell echoed throughout the school.
Trinnnnnnng!
The moment the sound reached their ears, the entire school came alive.
Students hurriedly packed their bags, laughter filled the corridors, and everyone rushed towards the exit as if they had finally been released from jail.
"Freedom!" someone shouted from the back, making the whole corridor burst into laughter.
Walking beside Shaurya, Anay adjusted his backpack and said,
"Yaar, Papa ne kuch samaan mangwaya hai. Mujhe market jaana padega. Tu mere saath chalega, ya pehle tujhe ghar drop kar doon?"
Shaurya looked at him as if he had just said the dumbest thing imaginable.
"Pagal hai kya?"
"Tu pehle ulta mere ghar ki taraf jayega, phir wapas market. Itna round kyun lagayega?"
He shook his head.
"Mera ghar paas hi hai. Main chala jaunga."
Anay frowned.
"Arey, koi baat nahi. Main pehle tujhe chhod deta hoon."
Shaurya smiled before placing a hand on his shoulder.
"Nahi, rehne de."
"You know na... jab bhi hum dono saath nikalte hain, dus minute ka rasta ek ghante mein khatam hota hai."
A mischievous grin appeared on his face.
"Tu jaa. Warna Uncle sach mein gussa kar denge."
Anay sighed dramatically before nodding.
"Theek hai."
The two friends walked towards the school gate along with the crowd of students.
Just before parting ways, Anay wrapped an arm around Shaurya's shoulder and grinned.
"Chal mere bete... milte hain kal."
Shaurya instantly removed his hand and gave him a playful shove.
"Kuch logon ko na... baap banne ka bada shauk hai."
Both of them laughed out loud before heading in opposite directions, completely unaware that life was slowly preparing new surprises for them.
